The Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences of the University of Algarve is a co-organizer of the international congress “Molecular, Imaging, and Digital Biomarkers in Parkinson’s Disease and Related Disorders”, which will take place from September 24 to 26, 2026, at the Sheraton Hotel, in Zagreb, Croatia.

The event, supported by the Movement Disorders Society (MDS), will bring together international experts in the fields of molecular biology, genetics, neuroimmunology, bioinformatics, neuroimaging, and artificial intelligence, with the aim of discussing the latest advances in understanding Parkinson's disease and related Parkinsonisms.

In recent decades, scientific progress in these areas has allowed for a deeper understanding of the mechanisms involved in neurodegeneration, opening new possibilities for the development of biomarkers and innovative therapeutic strategies.

Despite these advances, important challenges remain related to the identification of reliable biomarkers, the integration of multi-omic and neuroimaging data, and the understanding of the molecular and immunological mechanisms associated with the disease.

The congress aims to promote collaboration among researchers in biomedical sciences, computing specialists, and clinical neurologists, encouraging interdisciplinary discussion on diagnosis, disease stratification, and new therapeutic approaches.

The event is co-organized by Tiago Fleming de Oliveira Outeiro, a lecturer and researcher at University of Algarve.
