What's on in Albufeira: concerts at the Municipal Auditorium, festivals on Praça dos Pescadores and markets in Paderne — from the cosmopolitan Old Town and the riverside square in front of Fishermen's Beach to the buzzing Strip in Areias de São João. Seasonal highlights include the Festival Al-Buhera in late July (an Arab-themed night market and concert series), the Fishermen's Festival on the first weekend of September, and the symphonic concert with fireworks on Municipality Day (20 August, charter granted in 1504). Updated daily with what's happening today, this weekend and in the weeks ahead.
Municipal Auditorium
Council-run venue with 347 seats (343 + 4 for reduced mobility) and an Italian-style stage. Music, theatre, dance and cinema; part of the Rede Azul network of Algarve municipal theatres.
Igreja Matriz
Neoclassical church built after the 1755 earthquake on the site of a former mosque later converted to a church. The 1869 bell tower houses a carillon of eight bells. Praça da República, in the heart of the Old Town.
Praia dos Pescadores (Fishermen's Beach)
Blue Flag beach right in front of the Old Town — traditional fishing boats still rest on the sand. Reached via the tunnel from Largo Engenheiro Duarte Pacheco and the Elevador do Peneco panoramic lift at Pau da Bandeira.
Marina de Albufeira
Marina complex on the west side of town, recognisable by its ochre, pink and blue façades. Departures for the Benagil sea cave, dolphin watching and cruises to Carvoeiro — average duration 3h.
The Strip (Av. Sá Carneiro)
In Areias de São João, ~2 km east of the Old Town: themed bars and clubs packed into a single avenue. The heart of Albufeira's young nightlife scene.
Castelo de Paderne
Late 12th-century Almohad fortress in rammed-earth military taipa, ~7.5 km inland. Believed to be one of the castles depicted on the Portuguese flag. Visits by prior booking through the Municipal Archaeology Museum.
Praia da Falésia
~6 km of golden sand backed by ochre cliffs between Olhos de Água and Vilamoura — voted Best Beach in the World at Tripadvisor's Travellers' Choice Awards 2024. Generous sand, clean and calm sea.
Zoomarine Algarve
In Guia, ~10 min from the centre: 35-hectare park with dolphin, seal and bird-of-prey shows, butterfly garden and a water-park area. Awarded Quality Coast as a sustainable destination.
