Day 13 - Thursday TWO PROSECUTORS / Zwei Staatsanwälte (Two Prosecutors), Sergei Loznitsa, FR/DE, 2025, 118’, M/12 Soviet Union, 1937. Thousands of letters from falsely accused detainees by the regime are burned in a prison cell. Against all odds, one of them reaches its destination: the desk of the newly appointed local prosecutor, Alexander Kornyev. Kornyev does everything possible to meet the prisoner, a victim of the secret police, the NKVD. A convinced and upright Bolshevik, the young prosecutor suspects a crime. His quest for justice will take him to the office of the Attorney General in Moscow. In the era of the great Stalinist purges, this is a man's dive into the corridors of a totalitarian regime that does not acknowledge itself as such.
