The event takes place at Largo São João da Degola and features accordionist Marco António (21:30) and the Folkloric Ethnographic Group – ARPI (22:30).
The initiative aims to revive the old tradition of the corn scarecrow, an activity that used to take place in threshing floors where wheat and other cereals were also threshed and dried.
Also known as "desfolhada", the corn scarecrow involves the task of separating the corn cob from the surrounding husk. It is a hard task but also a moment of socialisation among peers, where people would gather, often at night, accompanied by singing and storytelling.
The organisation is managed by the A Manta Charity Association, with support from the VRSA Municipal Council and the Vila Nova de Cacela Parish Council.
