An exclusive open house in Faro's most iconic MGC building, guided by architect Victor Hugo Faustino.Built in 1955 for wealthy emigrant Alfredo Gago Rosa, Casa Gago is one of the most extraordinary modernist buildings in the Algarve and one of the least known outside Faro.

Manuel Gomes da Costa designed it at the height of his powers, drawing on Latin American influences to create something that feels simultaneously international and deeply rooted in its place. Pilotis, flat roof, large windows, a protective second skin. The full vocabulary of tropical modernism, transposed to southern Portugal with remarkable confidence.

What makes this open house exceptional is the access. Both apartments within Casa Gago will be open for the visit, including one flat that remains largely untouched, preserving its original 1950s features in extraordinary condition. Current residents will be on hand to share what it means to live inside a modernist landmark every day.

Victor Hugo Faustino, architect and MGC specialist, will guide the visit — placing Casa Gago within the broader arc of Gomes da Costa's career and Faro's mid-century architectural transformation.
