International Ascent of the Arade River 2026

On 25th October, the 🚣‍♂️International Arade River Ascent 2026🌊 will take place, featuring canoeing in the areas of Nautical Tourism and Competition. Registrations can be made until 22nd October.

The International Ascent of the Arade River (SIRA) 2026 returns for another edition of one of the most iconic canoeing events in southern Portugal, bringing together federated athletes, water tourism practitioners, and nature sports enthusiasts on a unique route connecting the municipalities of Portimão, Lagoa, and Silves.

With nearly three decades of history, this event highlights the natural and scenic heritage of the Rio Arade, providing a unique sporting and tourist experience. Throughout the route, participants navigate one of the most important waterways in the Algarve, crossing landscapes of great natural beauty and historical richness.

The initiative combines competitive elements with water tourism, promoting sports, outdoor physical activity, environmental sustainability, and connection with the local area.

Year after year, the SIRA attracts hundreds of national and international participants, reinforcing its position as a reference point for canoeing in Portugal and the Iberian Peninsula.

SIRA 2026 is organised by the Municipalities of Lagoa, Portimão and Silves, the Naval Club of Portimão and various sports entities.
