9th Taikai of Traditional Martial Arts – City of Lagoa

The Municipality of Lagoa, in partnership with the Lagoa Martial Arts Association, is hosting the 9th Taikai of Traditional Japanese Martial Arts – City of Lagoa on 5th and 6th December 2026 at the Pavilhão da Escola EB 2,3 Jacinto Correia. This event is dedicated to promoting and valuing traditional Japanese martial arts.

The main aim is to provide martial arts practitioners, known as budocas, and the general public with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the traditions, techniques, and principles of Japanese martial arts, while also fostering the sharing of experiences among practitioners from different regions.

The event will feature internationally renowned masters, including Soke Gunter Painter (10th Dan, technical director of the International Kobudo Federation, Austria), Wolfgang Muller (6th Dan, International Kobudo Federation, Germany), Luís Fernando (10th Dan, head of Ungoshin Portugal and the highest-ranked in Portugal), and Carlos Buinho (9th Dan, Portugal).

By bringing together practitioners from the municipality of Lagoa, the Algarve region, and other parts of the country, the 9th Taikai aims to contribute to the exchange of knowledge and experiences, enhancing the recognition of the local school and promoting the Municipality of Lagoa in the landscape of traditional Japanese martial arts.

The initiative is aimed at budocas and the general public, providing an opportunity to learn more about this aspect of martial arts and to connect with highly qualified and experienced masters.

Event Schedule:

• 5th December (Saturday): from 09:00 to 18:30;
• 6th December (Sunday): from 09:00 to 13:00.
