Four experiences to discover the biodiversity of the Algarve through workshops and guided walks in rural landscapes.
Rural Landscapes and Their Pollinators is a cycle of four activities dedicated to discovering the biodiversity of the rural landscapes of inland Algarve. Participants are invited to observe pollinating insects, plants and other small inhabitants and to understand the relationships between biodiversity, agriculture, water and traditional landscape structures.
The activities are led by Sérgio Henriques and João Ministro from Proactivetur and do not require prior knowledge.

Workshop: Building Bio-Habitats for Pollinators
[view activity] Garden of the QRER Building, Querença A practical workshop to learn about the insects that help keep many of our landscape plants alive and discover how materials such as cane, wood, clay, stone, bark and straw can provide shelter for them. The group participates in building a bio-habitat.

What Lives Around Water? Field Trip to Fonte da Benémola
[view activity] Fonte da Benémola, Loulé A guided walk to discover how the presence of water creates conditions for plants, insects and other forms of life, also exploring the relationship between biodiversity, irrigation crops and traditional water management practices.

What Lives Among the Stones? Field Trip to Rocha da Pena
Rocha da Pena, Loulé
A walk to observe the life that develops between stone walls, hedges, terraces, cavities and vegetation, understanding how these traditional structures can also serve as shelter for different species.

What Lives in the Dry Orchard? Field Trip at Nave do Barão
[view activity] Nave do Barão, Loulé A field trip to discover the biodiversity of traditional dry orchards and observe the relationship between ancient trees, cavities, vegetation, pollinating insects and other small inhabitants of this landscape.
