Young Olympics 2026/2027 - Phase 1

The Municipality of Lagoa, in partnership with local sports clubs and associations, is hosting the 1st phase of the Young Olympics 2026/2027 on 28 November and 5 December, from 09:00 to 12:30. This event offers children in primary school the chance to try different sports.

This initiative, aimed at children attending the first cycle of basic education in the municipality of Lagoa, primarily seeks to encourage sports practice, promote healthy lifestyles, and combat sedentary behaviour. It provides young people the opportunity to experience different sports in a fun and educational way.

Developed throughout the academic year, this project allows participants to learn about the sports available in the municipality, their rules, and fundamental skills, promoting direct contact with local clubs and associations.

Activities take place on Saturday mornings, guided by the coaches from the clubs in the municipality, with support from the technicians of the Sports Services of the Municipality of Lagoa. The council also provides sports insurance and a snack for participants.

Phase 1 Programme:

28 November | 09:00 to 12:30

Location: Jacinto Correia Municipal Pavilion

• Handball – Lagoa Académico Clube (LAC)
• Acrobatic Gymnastics – Che Lagoense

5 December | 09:00 to 12:30

Location: Pavilhão João Conim, Estômbar

• Futsal – Ferragudense
• Capoeira – Muzenza

Throughout the various stages, participants will have the opportunity to develop their physical and motor skills, discover new sports, and adopt active lifestyle habits in a friendly, learning, and fun environment.

At the end of the academic year, the "Champions of Lagoa" will be honoured, with awards given to the top 10 participants based on final scores, comprising five females and five males. This will take into account the number of participations and academic performance. The school with the highest relative representation will also be recognised.

Registration is required and is aimed at children attending primary schools in the municipality of Lagoa.
