As part of the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the founding festivities of Vila Real de Santo António, historian Fernando Pessanha will launch the work The "Intelligent, Practical, Active and Zealous of the Interests of S. Magde" Francisco de Mendonça Pessanha Mascarenhas, 1st Governor of the "New Village of Santo António de Arenilha" / Vila Real de Santo António.
The ceremony will take place on 24 October, Army Day, at 18:00, in the Noble Hall of the Port Captaincy of Vila Real de Santo António, marking a significant moment for the historical, cultural, and heritage identity of Vila Real de Santo António and the southeastern Algarve.
The work discusses the actions of Colonel of Infantry Pessanha Mascarenhas in the extreme southeast Algarve during the second half of the 18th century, highlighting his role in the history of the foundation and consolidation of Vila Real de Santo António.
