The João Frade Trio presents «Terra Ruiva» at the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium in Lagoa on Tuesday, 8 December, a public holiday, at 19:00.
The Algarve accordionist presents his latest album, released by the Dutch label Walboomers. He will be joined on stage by Cuban drummer Michael Olivera, Greek bassist Panagiotis Andreou, and guest vocalist Maninho.
From Barrocal to the World
João Frade's proposal blends Afro-Cuban rhythms, jazz, and melodies from Southern Europe and North Africa, creating music that is essentially instrumental, centred around the accordion and Algarvean roots.
Terra Ruiva, released in 2025, features ten original tracks inspired by the Barrocal region of Algarve, the "red land" where the musician began his artistic journey. Recorded with Michael Olivera and Cuban bassist Yarel Hernández, the album includes contributions from Edu Mundo, Miron Rafajlovic, and Adriano DD.
Originally from Albufeira, João Frade trained at CNIMA in France and has been recognised in competitions such as the Coupe Mondiale. One of the most eclectic musicians in contemporary Portuguese music, he has released several albums since 2018, both solo and in collaboration, from "Solilóquio" to "Rascunhos". He has collaborated with Mariza, Maria João & Mário Laginha, Pedro Jóia, Ney Matogrosso, Mayra Andrade, and Dino d'Santiago, among others.
In Lagoa, he will be joined by two internationally acclaimed musicians and, as is customary, a special guest.
