Coral Ideias do Levante at the XLIX Algarve Choir Festival

The Coral Ideias do Levante will participate in the 49th Algarve Choir Festival, with concerts in Vila do Bispo and Lagos. Admission is free.

At the invitation of the Associação do Grupo Coral de Lagos, the Coral Ideias do Levante will participate in this festival, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the association, with a concert on October 24, 2026, at 17:00, at the Igreja Matriz de Vila do Bispo, and will also be present at the closing concert on October 25, 2026, at 15:30, at the Igreja das Freiras in Lagos. The choir's travel is supported by the Municipality of Lagoa.

Founded in 1996, the Coral Ideias do Levante initially had artistic direction by Helena Tapadinhas and was conducted by maestro Ricardo Carvalho. In January 1998, under the artistic direction of Professor José Carlos Bago d'Uva, the group adopted a renewed concept of "choral singing pedagogy". From 2003 to 2016, it was directed by Professor Francisco Brazão, and from 2016 to 2021, by Professor Vera Batista. Since September 2021, the group has been directed by conductor Maria Saramago. Accompanied on piano by Rute Simões, Lutz Kettnaker, Silvia Smeman, Alany Steiner, and more recently, Cristiana Silva, the choir has performed at various locations across the Iberian Peninsula and organises several events throughout the year, notably the Lagoa Choral Week, flashmobs, and Christmas concerts. They perform a diverse repertoire (e.g., classical, pop, traditional, gospel, etc.) as a means of pedagogical intervention and audience development.
