Celebration of the 27th Anniversary of Mexilhoeira Grande's Elevation to Town

Mexilhoeira Grande marks the 27th anniversary of its elevation to town on November 1st with the inauguration of the new synthetic pitch at the Municipal Field, a formal session, a concert, and a chestnut roast.

The programme starts at 10:00 at the Parish Council headquarters with the raising of the flag and the national anthem performed by the Banda da Sociedade Filarmónica Portimonense.

At 10:20, the new synthetic pitch at the Municipal Field of Mexilhoeira Grande will be inaugurated. The band will return to perform at that location at 10:40.

The first match on the pitch is scheduled for 11:00, between Mexilhoeira Grande FC and Grupo Desportivo de Lagoa, for the District Championship of Under-15s of the Algarve Football Association.

The celebrations continue at 15:00 at the Matriz Church of Mexilhoeira Grande with the formal anniversary session. After institutional speeches, there will be a tribute to community members.

The programme includes the presentation of the promotional video "Mexilhoeira Grande – An Algarve to Discover", aimed at showcasing the parish and its heritage, and the launch of the monthly newspaper Ecos da Nossa Terra.

This publication aims to promote the activities and projects of the Parish Council in areas such as well-being, leisure, quality of life, culture, and the preservation of identity, heritage, and local traditions. The newspaper will also cover partnerships developed in collaboration with the Portimão Municipal Council.

From 16:30, the churchyard will host local product exhibitors and a food and drink area open to the community and visitors.

At 18:00, the band Al Mouraria will take the stage, born from a project started in 2002, characterised by blending traditional fado sounds with a more contemporary approach.

The celebrations will conclude with a chestnut roast at 19:30, accompanied by a dance with artist Humberto Silva.
