Hidden Gems

A small locality with much more character than most imagine, Estoi surprises with the magnificent Palace of Estoi, a rococo palace converted into a guesthouse with dream gardens. The small settlement of Farol, at the western tip of Ilha da Culatra, has a very unique and distinct charm. Grouped around the historic lighthouse, this collection of holiday homes and fishermen's residences creates a unique atmosphere between rustic and cosmopolitan. The beach in front is superb, and the waters are among the cleanest in the Algarve.

As the name suggests, it is a practically uninhabited island, with kilometers of pristine beach, untouched dunes, and profound silence. It is the southernmost point of mainland Portugal and a perfect refuge for those seeking nature in its purest form.

One of the most important Roman sites in the Algarve, Milreu reveals a grand rustic villa from the 1st century with extraordinary polychrome mosaics and a temple dedicated to the worship of water, unique on the Iberian Peninsula. The ruins testify to over a thousand years of continuous occupation and showcase the sophistication of Roman life in this region. The site is impressive for its scale and state of preservation.

A scenic road and elevated viewpoint in the Cerro de Sao Miguel area, near Estoi, offering one of the best panoramas over the Algarve's eastern coast. From the top, you can see the Ria Formosa, the city of Faro, the airport, and the vastness of the barrocal. It's a discreet and poorly marked spot, but it generously rewards those who seek it.
