João de Arens Beach
A hidden beach at the base of a majestic rock formation, divided into two sections by imposing cliffs. Named after an ancient shepherd who lived in the area, it hides a cave and a natural rock arch beneath the formations. Crystal clear waters and a total sense of isolation, despite being between Alvor and Prainha. One of the most discreet beaches on the Portimão coast, much quieter than the main spots in the area.

Fort of São João do Arade
Historic military fort at the mouth of the Arade River in Ferragudo, probably built on a 15th-century watchtower during the reign of King John II. It faces the Forte de Santa Catarina in Portimao on the opposite bank, forming a defensive system that guarded the river entrance. Classified by IPPAR since 1975. Although not completely unknown, it remains surprisingly discreet compared to other coastal icons of the Algarve. The silhouette of the fort at sunset, viewed from Ferragudo beach, is one of the most beautiful images of the Algarve coast.

Praia da Angrinha
A calmer and more secluded beach near Ferragudo, at the mouth of the Arade River. The proximity to the estuary gives it calmer and warmer waters than the ocean beaches, making it ideal for families. The view of the Portimão marina and the Castle of São João do Arade completes a charming and tranquil scene.

Ferragudo
A charming fishing village on the opposite bank of Portimão, Ferragudo maintains its own identity and a relaxed atmosphere that contrasts with the busier neighbor. The cobbled streets, colorful houses, and the central square overlooking the Arade River create a typically Algarve setting. The Castle of São João do Arade dominates the landscape by the estuary.
