Let's Go to the Levada

The second edition of the event "Let's Go to the Levada" takes place this Sunday, July 12, starting at 09:00, at Praia da Lota.
The organization invites you to revive the tradition through the recreation of the century-old artisanal fishing practice known as "vamos à levada" or "a galapé".
A technique that used a net about 40 meters long, similar to the nets of trawlers or encircling gear, and involved three to five fishermen in shallow areas, divided into two groups: the so-called calão de fora, who entered the water slowly dragging the net at chest level, and the calão de terra, who assisted the maneuver from the beach.
The initiative "Let's Go to the Levada" is promoted by Associação A Manta, the Sports Fishing Association of Praia da Manta Rota (ADP Manta Rota), and the Municipality of Vila Real de Santo António.
