Olhão South Jazz 2026 presents... “Caribe Libre” is a vibrant repertoire that invites Raul Reyes (vocals) and Osvaldo Pegudo (percussion) to lead a program dedicated to Latin music and its deep connections with Jazz. It was Dizzy Gillespie who, by integrating Latin musicians from New York and their Afro-Caribbean rhythms, paved the way for the birth of Latin Jazz — a fusion that quickly spread throughout the Caribbean, influencing generations of composers and performers.

The concert opens with Manteca, one of the most emblematic themes of Latin Jazz, presented in the original orchestration of Dizzy Gillespie's big band. Following are classics such as Bilongo, Contigo en la Distancia, and Mambo Nº 5, among other significant tracks, traversing rhythms like cha-cha-chá, bolero, and mambo. “Caribe Libre” is thus an intense musical journey full of Caribbean flavor, led by the voice and hands of two great Cuban musicians: Raul Reyes and Osvaldo Pegudo.
