Perseids 2026 - Astronomical Observation

Far from the city lights, Paderne Castle is once again chosen for a unique experience that, every year in August, allows for the observation of the Perseid meteor shower, near the constellation of Perseus, popularly known as "Saint Lawrence's Tears". The session, led by astronomer Oleh Malyi, using a high-precision telescope, extends until midnight. This year, the initiative coincides with one of the most significant astronomical phenomena in recent decades in Portugal: a partial solar eclipse that will turn day into night, visible in almost the entire national territory, with levels of obscuration between 92% and 100% on the mainland. It is expected that in the Algarve, the obscuration of the sun will be around 92% to 93%.
