Olhão : Cubism and Beyond - Guided Tour (2h)

A Sunday walk led by Richard Walker looking at the cubist heritage and lesser known modernism of Faro's neighbouring fishing town, Olhão.This tour is an exploration of Olhão's cubist and modernist buildings, led by artist and writer Richard Walker. Come ready to walk, the city's architectural gems are scattered across its streets, and that is precisely the point.

Along the way, the tour includes a rare step inside a private cubist house, offering a glimpse into the living architecture that defines this city from within.

The tour concludes with two unmissable moments at A Fabrica de Olhão : a visit to Boomcubist, Richard Walker's art exhibition inspired by Olhão's unique architectural character and the opportunity to purchase a signed copy of his book Faro Modernism, published by Batsford Books.

But first, a very special detour : an open house at the 1930s home of Polly, Richard's publisher, who has made Olhão her own. A house that predates modernism proper, yet carries in its bones the same cubist spirit that defines the city and a rare glimpse into the life of someone who chose to root herself here, among these streets and these walls.

About Richard Walker :

Is a British collectable artist based in London.Born in 1954 in Yorkshire, Richard graduated in 1977 with an MA in printmaking after attending 3 London art colleges including Camberwell and Chelsea. Since then he has exhibited his work internationally having had over 50 shows in London, Paris, Hamburg, Berlin,Hannover, Los Angeles and Sardinia. He is in many public and private collections and has had numerous commissions, including murals and installations in London and New York. Richard's work often combines architectural elements with collaged abstract forms and has been described as 'layered and subtle, joyful and poignant' by Galleries magazine in the UK.
