MAR Exhibition – Sound Creatures

The Portimão Museum will inaugurate the exhibition “MAR – Sound Creatures” on 12 September at 16:00, showcasing works of drawing, sculpture, and sound developed by 75 children as part of the Museum's Summer Holidays activities.

Inspired by the maritime and riverside universe of Portimão, the exhibition results from a creative process that explored the relationship between sound, matter, and imagination through sound design and ceramics. The children were challenged to capture and explore sounds from the Museum and its surroundings and to create creatures inspired by the forms and imagery of the sea.

The exhibition breathes new life into improbable fish, hybrid beings, friendly monsters, and other creatures imagined by the children, in a sensory universe that values the creative process and local heritage.

The exhibition is curated by Filipa Brito and Nelson Guerreiro from BÓIA Cultural Association, with the participation of ceramist Ana Paula Aleixo and artist Eunice Artur.

The activities took place between 1 July and 7 August, integrated into the socio-educational activities programme of the Portimão Museum, in partnership with BÓIA Cultural Association.

The exhibition will be on view until 11 October 2026.
