CTRL + ALT + UNPROGRAMMED FREEDOM is a participatory art installation at the BlackBox in Almancil (in the Multi-Purpose Pavilion of Almancil) that integrates research for the third show of the trilogy Theory of Pessimism by Marlene Barreto. Developed from research on contemporary threats to democratic values, the project investigates contemporary forms of influence and their impact on the construction of thought and democratic values.
All voices make promises. Some promise security. Others freedom, success, belonging, or change. But why do we believe in certain promises and not others? In a time when digital networks amplify the circulation of discourses and make relationships of influence increasingly complex, seemingly incompatible discourses sometimes reveal surprisingly similar promises.
Participatory and itinerant, the installation invites the public to observe how trust is built, how different narratives continuously compete for our attention, and how certain voices gain authority. More than a reflection on technology, it proposes an investigation into a deeply human desire: the desire to find someone to trust.
