Harp Concert with Rebeca Csalog

As part of the VI Algarve Harp Festival, the Church of Misericórdia in Lagoa will host the Harp Concert with Rebeca Csalog on 22 November at 17:00, and entry is free.

In a programme spanning over a century of music, harpist Rebeca Csalog offers a journey of contemplation and silence: from the Romanian folk dances collected by Béla Bartók to Erik Satie's Gnossiennes, passing through Louange à l’Éternité de Jésus from the Quatuor pour la fin du Temps that Olivier Messiaen wrote in a prisoner camp in 1940-41, and In a Landscape by John Cage. The song Verdes Anos by Carlos Paredes brings the Portuguese guitar to the strings of the harp, before Ottorino Respighi's Notturno and Arvo Pärt's Spiegel im Spiegel conclude the concert in a mirror of serenity.

Rebeca Csalog is a Luso-Hungarian harpist. She started on the violin at three and switched to harp at six when she entered the National Conservatory. She completed her Master's degree at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa with Carolina Coimbra (2023) and a postgraduate degree at the Civica Scuola Claudio Abbado in Milan with Irina Zingg (2025). Awarded in Portugal, Spain, France, and Slovenia, she won the 1st Prize at the National Harp Competition (2023). In 2012, she premiered the Harp Concerto by Vasco Negreiros with the Filarmonia das Beiras Orchestra. She collaborates with the Gulbenkian Orchestra, the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra, and the Algarve Orchestra, among others, and is a member of the Contemporary Ensemble of Póvoa de Varzim. In 2025, she won the audition for reinforcement in the National Symphony Orchestra (Ireland). In solo and chamber music, notable projects include Águas with mezzo-soprano Patrícia Silveira and Duo Dahlia with cellist Carolina Rodrigues.
