Theme for 2026: IN A PLEASURABLE PENANCE: THE RESCUE OF LANGUAGE. WHAT HAS BEEN WRITTEN IN PORTUGAL SINCE THE MILLENNIUM BUG.
There are various reasons distancing us from the language, from the use and enjoyment of (good) Portuguese. A natural inclination to embrace other cultures, along with the generalisation of greater linguistic competencies, is associated with increasingly careless translations in texts and subtitles, often automated. We propose an immersive experience, with delight, in a selection of works in Portuguese from Portugal, published since the dawn of the second millennium.
Book for reading: ELIETE, A NORMAL LIFE, by Dulce Maria Cardoso Being halfway through life is like being on a suspended bridge, any breeze can sway it. Eliete's life is at a midpoint, and as if that weren't enough, a storm is approaching. Yet this is still the time that will be remembered as terribly strange, even though no one notices. Because everything seems normal. God is absent or working clandestinely. From time to time, the Homeland awakens in festive eruptions, but it gradually fades away. And the Family?
