“Boa Esperança in Review” is the title of the new production of Revista à Portuguesa presented by Boa Esperança, which premieres on May 9 at 21:00, promising moments of laughter and relaxation while keeping alive a tradition that has been growing and establishing itself as a successful show at the national level for over 70 years. Over the decades, this initiative has evolved from a local comedy, initially called Carnival Review, to a more current format, without losing its critical and humorous identity.
The show opens with the original number “Revista, I Am Here for You”, followed by a sequence of sketches that portray daily life with humor and irreverence: “The Gossip… of the Bad-Tongue”, centered on two cleaning ladies and their gossip; “Neither the Kid is Born, Nor the Hospital Grows”, a satire on difficulties in accessing healthcare; “3rd Company”, a parody of the military universe; “Between Memories and Silence”, about loneliness in old age; “Lisbon”, a tribute to fado singer Anita Guerreiro and popular traditions; “The Family Mangueira”, a comedy around a will; and “Viva el México”, where cultural shock gives rise to caricature moments.
With original texts and lyrics by Carlos Pacheco, this review combines political and social critique with music, color, and energy on stage, featuring a cast that includes Carlos Pacheco, Telma Brazona, Filipa Goulart, Isa de Brito, Marcos André, Ana Oliveira, Catarina Duarte, Beatriz Bernardo, Maria Martins, Beatriz Maio, and Leonor Mitelo.
The sessions will take place on Fridays and Saturdays at 21:00, and on Sundays, with double sessions at 15:00 and 17:30, with the show running at Boa Esperança until the end of June. For reservations and more information, the public can contact the number 967 188 529. “Boa Esperança in Review” thus stands as an invitation to laughter and reflection, celebrating one of the most emblematic traditions of Portuguese theater.
