"Meditating on death is meditating on freedom." — Michael Montaigne, Essays, I, xx, 1972
Some cultures celebrate death, while others consider it a taboo. Throughout history, humanity has sought to delay its approach to the end. However, life has a natural limit and requires renewal through new generations.
In contemplating finitude, ATA investigates new forms of presence, care, and ritual, opening space for other ways to inhabit death as part of life. It is urgent to educate new possibilities of relationship with death and reflect on how this final act can contribute to a more conscious, responsible, and humane society. It is time to cultivate beauty, even in the ritual of death.
