On September 12, at 9:30 PM, the theater play 🎭The Night👺 by José Saramago will take the stage at the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium in Lagoa, presented by the Yellow Star Company. Tickets are already on sale at Bilheteira Online.
In the newsroom of a newspaper in Lisbon, on the night of April 24, 1974, the routine will be interrupted by a discussion between the provincial editor, Manuel Torres, a journalist who defends journalistic truth above any other interest, and his editor, Abílio Valadares, a man submissive to political power, who has the unconditional support of Máximo Redondo, the newspaper's director. Torres is in constant ideological struggle with the management. He is an idealist who will fight to bring the truth back to the pages of “his” newspaper and will have allies in Cláudia, a young intern, and Jerónimo, the linotype operator, head of the night shift. The conflict gains an even more dramatic dimension when a rumor arises in the newsroom that a revolution may be happening outside. The editor prohibits the publication of any news on the subject. Agitation and nervousness grow within the newspaper. On the other side of the “barricade,” the director and the editor do everything to downplay the alleged social upheaval, certain that they will not print any news, even if they have to claim a malfunction in the linotype machines. A micro-revolution is underway in the newsroom. Even after the facts are proven, what will be the truth that prevails? Will there be any news on the front page of the next day's edition?
