If you were here this week...
You would feel the Algarve settle into its warm, unhurried July rhythm. Days climb to a steady 27°C, the light stretches well past nine, and the sea has finally warmed to a swimmable 20°C. The air smells of grilled sardines and pine, and every town square seems to be tuning an instrument for the evening.
This is a weekend that leans into two things the region does best: wine and song. Down in Tavira, forty producers pour late into the night by the bandstand. In Loulé, the summer fair fills the streets with folklore and tasquinhas before Gisela João closes it with fado. And on a clifftop in Sagres and inside a Lagos church, the music keeps going long after sunset. Pour yourself something cold and read on.

🎯 TOP 3 EVENTS OF THE WEEK
|
|
|
|
1. Os Dias do Vinho
Where: Jardim do Coreto, Tavira When: Friday 10 to Monday 13 July
Why it's worth it: Now in its seventh edition, Tavira's wine festival takes over the pretty bandstand garden with around forty producers from every wine region in the country. You taste your way through whites, rosés, reds, sparkling and fortified wines, with stalls of regional petiscos and sweets to slow you down between pours. The setting is the whole point: warm evenings, string lights, and the Gilão river a few steps away.

2. Feira Popular de Loulé
Where: Loulé When: Thursday 9 to Sunday 12 July
Why it's worth it: Loulé's big summer fair is a full sensory package: tasquinhas serving grilled meats and cold beer, handicraft stalls, folklore, and Loulé Criativo workshops running each night. The music programme is the draw, opening with José Cid and building to a closing concert by fado star Gisela João on Sunday at 21:00. Saturday brings the 46th AGAL Folklore Festival, a swirl of traditional costume and dance.

3. Algarve Camerata: Voices of Romanticism
Where: Igreja de São Sebastião, Lagos When: Sunday 12 July
Why it's worth it: The Algarve Camerata brings its summer residency to one of Lagos's most beautiful churches for an evening of Romantic-era music under baroque gilt woodwork. The acoustics of São Sebastião do half the work, wrapping strings and voices around a room built for exactly this. It is the kind of free, unhurried culture that makes a Sunday night feel special.
