If you were here this week...
You would notice that the nights have turned. August still hands out 28 degrees at three in the afternoon, but by midnight the air drops to 17 and people start reaching for something with sleeves outside the cafés. It is the first honest sign that the season is tipping over.
The region answers by throwing everything it has left at the calendar. Lagoa opens FATACIL on Friday, ten nights of livestock pens, craft halls and headline concerts. A village east of Tavira strings up its lights for three free nights of accordion and grilled meat. And out west, a festival of early music starts moving quietly between churches. Here is the week.

🎯 TOP 3 EVENTS OF THE WEEK
|
|
|
|
1. FATACIL 2026
Where: Parque Municipal de Feiras e Exposições, Lagoa When: Friday 21 to Sunday 30 August
Why it's worth it: FATACIL has been running since 1980 and it is still the closest thing the Algarve has to a regional state fair. Under one long set of halls you get livestock pens, olive oil and honey producers, cork and ceramics, an equestrian arena, folklore groups, and a gastronomy section where every municipality argues its case with a plate.

2. Feira Franca de Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo
Where: Parque de Feiras e Mercados, Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo, Tavira When: Friday 21 to Sunday 23 August
Why it's worth it: This is the exact opposite of FATACIL and worth seeing in the same week for that reason. The parish council runs it, entry costs nothing, and the whole thing happens on a fairground in a village of under 2,000 people on the old road between Tavira and Loulé.

3. Costa Vicentina Early Music Fest, 4th Edition
Where: Lagos, Sagres, Aljezur and Vila do Bispo When: Saturday 22 to Saturday 29 August. Opening concert Saturday 22, 7pm, Igreja de Santo António and Museu de Lagos. All concerts free.
Why it's worth it: Historically informed music, played on period instruments, in the buildings it was written for. The festival moves along the west coast for a week, and the opening night in Lagos launches the first "Lagos 1460" grant, given to emerging artists working with early music from that year onwards.

Ask it instead of scrolling it.
Every week this email makes a shortlist and leaves ninety other things on the cutting room floor. The Atlas chatbot is what you use when the shortlist is not your shortlist. Ask it for a free concert within thirty minutes of Tavira on Saturday, somewhere to take visiting parents who will not walk far, or what is actually on in Alcoutim, and it answers from the live regional calendar instead of from the internet at large. The chatbot, the full forward calendar, the interactive map, the personalised Sentinela alerts and the AI trip planner are all part of Premium.
