If you were here this week...
You'd feel the Algarve at full summer volume. Days that climb to 32°C, a sky that hasn't seen a cloud in weeks, and evenings that finally cool enough to send everyone back out into the streets. This is the last weekend of July, and the interior answers it the way it always has: São Brás de Alportel throws open the Feira da Serra, the biggest mountain fair in the region, right in the heart of the village.
Down in Loulé, jazz turns thirty. Over in Boliqueime, the smell of street food drifts across the Largo until 2am. From folklore in Olhão to a big-band brass tour rolling through the western hills, this is a weekend that rewards leaving the beach towel behind after dark. Here is where to point yourself.

1. Feira da Serra 2026
Where: Village centre, São Brás de Alportel
When: Friday 24 to Sunday 26 July
Why it's worth it: Born in 1991 to champion the products of the Serra do Caldeirão, the Feira da Serra is the largest fair of its kind in the Algarve, and this year it moves into the streets of São Brás itself, woven right through the village. Expect more than a hundred artisans, tables of mountain cooking, honey, cheese and conventual sweets, and the unhurried rhythm of a fair built around real craft rather than souvenirs.

2. 30th Edition of Loulé Jazz
Where: Alcaidaria do Castelo, Loulé
When: Friday 24 to Sunday 26 July
Why it's worth it: Thirty years in, Loulé's jazz festival remains one of the region's most serious music dates, and the anniversary programme shows it. Under the direction of pianist Mário Laginha, six concerts unfold across three nights inside the castle walls, opening with the Andy Sheppard Trio and the baptism of a new Trio de Jazz de Loulé.

3. BFF – Boliqueime Food Festival
Where: Largo da Feira, Boliqueime
When: Friday 24 to Sunday 26 July,
Why it's worth it: Now in its seventh year, the Boliqueime Food Festival takes over the village square with three nights of street food, running from Portuguese classics to international plates, alongside craft stalls and regional sweets. Live music carries it late, with tribute acts, local performers and DJs across the weekend.
