If you were here this week...
You'd feel the full heat of summer settle in, days climbing to 30°C under a sky that hasn't seen a cloud in weeks, nights soft enough to eat dinner outside at midnight. You'd smell woodsmoke and grilled sardines drifting from a village festa in the Monchique hills, hear a saxophone lifting over the river in Tavira after dark, and watch the light go gold over the castle walls in Silves as the first cold beer of the evening hits the table.
This is the Algarve at its most alive. The festival calendar is packed, the coast is warm, and the interior is throwing open its village squares. This week we point you to a five-day beer festival under a Moorish castle, a mountain saint's celebration with accordion and folklore, and three nights of open-air jazz by the water. Here is your week.

🎯 TOP 3 EVENTS OF THE WEEK
|
|
|
|
1. Silves Beer Fest 2026
Where: Praça Al-Mutamid, Silves When: Tuesday 14 to Saturday July 18
Why it's worth it: Silves does this one right. For five nights the main square below the red sandstone castle fills with more than 40 Portuguese breweries pouring over 80 craft beers, from crisp summer lagers to heavier stouts you would not expect to crave in this heat, until you taste one at 11pm with the stone still warm from the day. There is live music every night, a proper spread of food stalls, and a Fun Zone that keeps younger kids busy while the adults work through the list. It is relaxed, local, and genuinely about the beer rather than the marketing around it.

2. Festival in Honor of Santo António
Where: Marmelete, Monchique When: Friday July 17 to Sunday July 19
Why it's worth it: This is the Algarve most visitors never see. Marmelete is a small mountain village above Monchique, and for one weekend a year it pours everything into its saint's festival. The programme runs the full traditional arc: a fair, mass and processions, folklore groups, accordion players, dancing that spills into the small hours, and the kind of community warmth that only happens when a whole village is out together. The air up here is cooler and greener than the coast, scented with eucalyptus and pine, and the food is unfussy and generous.

3. Jazz in Tavira
Where: Open air, riverside Tavira When: Friday July 17 to Sunday July 19
Why it's worth it: Three warm nights, three concerts, and one of the prettiest towns in the eastern Algarve as your backdrop. This free open-air jazz cycle brings the Rodrigo Correia Quintet on Friday, the Leiria Jazz Orchestra with singer Paula Oliveira on Saturday, and the João Frade Trio on Sunday. Tavira after dark is made for this: the river running quiet under the old Roman bridge, the tiled façades cooling down, a glass of something local in hand while the music plays late. It rewards the eastern Algarve, which too often gets skipped, and it costs nothing.
